Why I Believe I Need to Clean My PC Registry

With frequent use, personal computers tend to have problems performing certain operations. Every time I experience this, I make sure that I clean my PC registry as soon as possible. The PC registry is a basic set of operating instructions that tell the computer system how to operate.

The registry stores information it might need to retrieve an application or change a system setting. It contains user’s profiles, applications installed on the computer and the types of documents they create, what hardware exists on the system, and the ports being used.

Over time, the registry begins to accumulate information that is no longer valid, potentially slowing down your PC and causing error messages and system crashes. You might even notice a slowdown during startups, which can be attributed to leftover entries in the registry that are taking up space and causing the registry to be larger than it should be. The easiest way to help avoid these problems is to clean up your PC registry.

Registry cleaning programs are designed to remove all the garbage left behind from all the programs that you have installed and uninstalled in your computer over the years. A cleaning program usually checks your registry and locates any items that can be removed safely. You can then select items individually for removal or choose to remove all the items the scanner finds.

You can try removing these items manually but it is not to be recommended. First of all, it’s difficult to determine which items correspond to which applications, and by attempting to remove items yourself, you might accidentally remove a valid registry item, which can lead to software crashes and errors.

If you do want to remove a program or software application from your PC, always use the Add or Remove Programs tool found in the Control Panel. Doing so ensures that any registry items associated with that application are removed safely.

If you accidentally remove something you need in your registry, don’t worry. Your PC has an "undo” option called System Restore, which helps revert your system back to its original state, before you performed the scan, in case you inadvertently remove any valid registry items.

It is recommended that you do a complete clean up of your registry once a month. The cleaning program you’ve installed can scan check your registry automatically. To avoid systems crashes on your PC, invest in a reliable registry repair software to clean the registry of your PC.
