The Big Three

Dang it, just spent 15 minutes writing a long blog and lost it. Oh well, part of the learning process. At least it was not deleted by a somebody else.

Here is the short version. I have owned two brand new GM cars as a younger man. Both were crap and led me to switch to Nissan. Since that time, I have owned three Altimas, a Maxima and a Pathfinder. All are and were great vehicles. I promised myself back then that GM would never get another dime of my money. Well, now they are in line with every other large US corporation asking for a bailout. Yes, the holding out of the hand is becomine a plague. After years and years of bad vehicles, bad decisions and blowing billions of dollars making cars that nobody wanted, now they want to reach into my pocket. From the EV1 electric car that swallowed billions of GM dollars only to end up being bought back by GM and retired to a desert cemetary to their latest waste of cash. The car that every American really wants right now. A gas guzzling, insurance rate hiking two door sports car named the Camaro. That should be a hot selling car in 2009. I am sure that the profits from this vehicle alone would save GM.

But alas, here we are today. Many cry that without the bailout, the Big Three will die and thousands will be layed off. So we must save them they say. Well, what will happen if GM closes it's doors? Who will replace the vehicles currently being sold by GM? Nissan, Honda and Toyota, they same companies that are building NEW plants in the US while Detroit is shutting theirs down. The Japanese makers will have to increase capacity to meet the demand. That means more plants and double shifts which will gobble up most of the layed off workers from the Big Three.

But, we live in America and we will never let a company like GM for Ford close down. Looks like GM will be getting some of my money again anyway. Well at least I will not have to deal with their porr quality cars. Frown

  • Guess I need to clarify one thing. American made trucks are great vehicles. There is no denying that a GM, Dodge or a Ford truck is the best of what the Big Three have to offer. Problem is, that is really their only stronghold and Nissan and Toyota are making darn good trucks as well right now.

  • Well, the truth is i've only owned or co owned three vehicles, my two trucks are and were a chevy, and the only time i had problems i had occured while it was under warranty, and i kept both vehicles to over 200,000 miles. My wife's car doesn't have high milage, but the only warranty issue we had was a bad regulator for one of the windows. Now i've never been a ford fan, but have had good luck with GM vehicles. now, with that said, when i do buy my next vehicle, i'm will consider toyata or nissan, depending on if the price is right
